One 2-hour session to make the Musselburgh Hat

Musselburgh Hat

This popular top-down, double layered hat is swatchless and versatile but comes with a fussy start. We’ll explore the cast-on plus alternates to get you started. Jogless color changes and working small circumferences with two circs at the same time are also on the agenda.

One 2-hour session. For additional help, sign up for additional classes and/or  Personal Projects Workspace.

Student Provided Supply List
Homework: None
Pattern: Available for purchase on Ravelry or ysolda.com. Bring printed out to class.
Yarn

  • Although the pattern allows for yarn from fingering to DK, I’d advise a DK or light worsted
until you are settled with the top down cast on.
  • One solid color. An inside and outside color. Variegated. Striped. Stash buster* All
good. If combining, stick to the same weight and fiber yarns. Look at the projects on
    Ravelry for ideas.
  • Wool, superwash wool, alpaca, etc. Blends with cotton, nylon or acrylic are good.
Quality acrylic. Carry-along a kid silk. Probably not cotton unless it is a light
    construction.

Needle: Select a needle size on the smaller end of the range advised on the yarn label unless a
super tight knitter.

Additional Info:

  • Class will focus on knitting using two circular needles at the same time. If the customer
prefers they can work with double pointed needles or magic loop.
  • If using 2 circular needles, they need to be made of the same material. The cord length
can vary. 24-30-32 range is good.
  • If the person has an interchangeable set, we can pair the single set of needles for
working with a smaller size at the opposite ends.
  • The cord does not need the same flexibility as Magic Loop. But cords with lots of
    memory will be most annoying.

Notions:

  • Stitch markers
  • A crochet hook - same mm size as the knitting needle to be used
